The bait of a Tab for nine quick questions drew many to the British Council’s stall at Gandhi Maidan on Friday.

Sources said the organisation’s stall was one of the most visited on the opening day of Bihar Divas 2013. The stall was opened to public on Thursday after its inauguration at 2pm.

On Friday, visitors said the one-in-a-five chance to win a Tab took them to the stall. Two contestants have already won Tabs, three are up for grabs on Saturday.

Residents also had access to free British Council applications to help brush up their command over English and assistance in facing interviews among others.

Babli Kumari Sharma, a 22-year-old pursuing masters degree from Magadh Mahila College, and her friend Priyanka Sinha were among the 50 and so visitors to the stall who signed up for the quiz. Babli’s sole aim was to have a crack at the quiz and win the Tablet worth Rs 25,000.

“I am keeping my fingers crossed. I hope to crack the quiz and win a Tablet. Answering a few questions to get one would be worth it,” she told The Telegraph in the afternoon.

Priyanka was more interested in the applications than the Tab.

“The stall is providing some online products (applications) which can help one improve command over English. I registered at the stall for downloading the applications. I am preparing for competitive examinations and they would help me a lot.”

Joydeep Bordoloi, senior project manager, partnerships, Bihar and Assam, British Council, said: “At least 750 people visited our stall till 2.30pm on Friday and yesterday (Thursday), around 4,900 people had visited our stall after the inauguration. The response has been overwhelming. People are coming in the afternoon heat as well. I expect more people to visit the stall in the evening.”

For the quiz — open on Saturday also — visitors are given a sheet with nine questions related to applications provided by the British Council. Based on information available at the stall on these products, the contestants have to answer the questions with a hope to be among the lucky few. Only five Tabs are being given out.

On the applications, Bordoloi said: “Many people registered to get our online products (applications). To do so, they need to give us their email address to which we will mail a link in a week. From that link, they can download our applications.

Jobseekers, which helps people in facing interviews, is the most sought-after application. Not just students, many parents are also registering with us to get the applications so that their wards can benefit from the product later.”
