Patna, Aug. 6: Independent woman MLA Jyoti Rashmi was suspended from the Assembly and the committees she figures in - for the remaining part of the last session of the House - for her unruly behaviour.

Jyoti was demanding a ban on the sale and consumption of liquor that has "messed up" many families' lives, but in doing so, she messed up the proceedings as ran around the Well of the House, upturning chairs and breaking mikes.

Women watch and ward staff had to be called in to bodily lift her out of the House on Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary's orders.

Pradip Joshi, the husband of the woman member from Dehri-on-Sone, is behind bars for about five years in connection with several criminal offences.

Parliamentary affairs minister Shravan Kumar proposed the member's suspension, which the House approved.

The BJP members had, by then, staged a walkout from the House to protest against BJP worker Avinash Kumar's murder in the city.

Drought relief

Water resources minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary announced that the government has made all arrangements to help farmers in the wake of the drought situation in the state.

"Much before imposition of model code of conduct, the cabinet has decided to help farmers in a big way by paying subsidy on diesel and ensuring regular power supply for irrigation so that they do not suffer because of the elections," Chaudhary said.

The House passed the water resources department's supplementary demand without any debate, as BJP members created continuous uproar in the House over the murder of a party worker and stalled the move to initiate a debate.
