Patna, Aug. 27: Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BSHRC) has directed the Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP) to appear before it to explain the inordinate delay in completing investigation in connection with an extortion case.

“The Aurangabad SP is directed to appear before the commission for hearing on September 23. The copy of the complaint petition be also made available to the SP,” Justice Rajendra Prasad, member of BSHRC, said in his brief order. Prasad said it appeared proper in the interest of protection of the complainant’s right to life to hear the SP, as he would be able to throw light on such a delayed investigation.

The commission passed the direction on a petition filed by one Rajiv Ranjan Sinha, a businessman and a resident of Aurangabad, seeking direction to the authorities concerned to speed up the investigation so that the culprit could be nabbed and punished accordingly. But the petitioner, who received an anonymous call on his phone asking for extortion money, has been running from pillar to post to get his grievance redressed but in vain.
