Gopalganj, Feb. 24: A Class X student committed suicide here after consuming poison today. The girl had threatened the district magistrate of Gopalganj yesterday that if he expelled her from school, she would commit suicide.

She was taking her examination at SS Girls’ School at the district headquarters, when during his visit, district magistrate Pankaj Kumar Pal, caught her cheating and recommended her expulsion.

Sources said, the girl examinee told the authorities if they expelled her, she would commit suicide. Sources added, after coming out of the examination centre she went to the market and purchased poison before consuming it. When her guardians saw her condition deteriorating, they rushed her to Gorakhpur hospital where she died.

Mukhiya arrested

Mukhiya of Amarpur panchayat, Ram Vakil Prasad, under Mohammadpur police station in Gopalganj was arrested today on charges of misappropriation of funds. The sub-divisional police officer, Sanjay Kumar said: “The mukhiya was wanted in connection with embezzlement of Indira Aawas Yojana funds.
