Four computer science students from Central University of South Bihar have cracked the prestigious Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2017 examination.
MTech student Atif Faridi had the best rank among the four, with an all India ranking (AIR) of 5130. The other successful students from the central university were Akshay Dhyani (AIR 7031), Uttam Kumar (AIR 10548) and Rajesh Kumar (AIR 19797).
Vice-chancellor Harish Chandra Singh Rathore congratulated the successful students along with computer science faculty members - Nemi Chandra Rathore, Prabhat Ranjan, Smita Ray and Jainath Yadav. Uttam said: "It is proud moment for us to have cracked GATE examination. The credit behind the success goes to the faculty members and the hard work and dedication that I put in to clear the test."
In the national level test, around 96,000 candidates appeared from across the country.
"In the examination administrated by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology, Central University of South Bihar students have succeeded in achieving ranking between 5130 and 19797 in computer science & information technology subject, which is quite encouraging and a matter of pride for the university fraternity," said vice-chancellor Rathore. The GATE examination is an important criteria for PhD enrolment in prestigious institutions of the country such as Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology. The ranking of students in GATE 2017 will be valid up to March 26, 2020 for admission in PhD programmes.
Wellness seminar
St Xavier's College and St Xavier's College of Management and Technology at Digha, Patna, concluded a two-day inter-disciplinary national seminar on "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah: Revisiting Paradigms of Wellness" on April 9.
The seminar served as the focal point for inter-disciplinary perspectives on collaboration and innovation to nurture wellness.
The seminar organised at De Nobili Hall saw the whole-hearted participation of Jesuit priests, academic luminaries, doctors, teachers, volunteers and students.
Atmadarshan (Patna spiritual organisation) director Father Joe Kunnumpuram SJ, a writer, trained psychologist, spiritual director, delivered the chief guest's address. Kunnumpuram spoke on oneness, ecological balance, inclusive community growth and effects of science and technology on our daily life.
He said mantra of "Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah" is all be happy and healthy (free from illness). "Adopting a balanced life without stress can help a person achieve success," he said. "Right food habits and correct lifestyle is the mantra behind leading a happy and successful life."
Neelima, a first-year undergraduate history student, one of the students who attended the seminar, said: "The lectures at the seminar was thought provoking and educative. We learned about the steps an individual can take to shape his/her life in a better way."
BIT scores
Birla Institute of Technology, Patna, students have been awarded the Deloitte Innovation Award at the recently concluded Smart India Hackathon 2017.
The competition, organised by the All India Council for Technical Education and the Union human resource development ministry, was held at SSN College of Engineering in Chennai last week.
B> T-Patna's Team Unicorn was the only group from Bihar at the competition. The team worked on to develop a solution to aid network administrators to have better control over network congestion. Their idea was selected for the final where they ranked among the top five teams to secure the innovation award. The team received Rs 10,000.
Team leader Anand Mohan said: "Network congestion is often the result of poor network design or a symptom of a network that has more users than it can handle. We developed a software through which network congestion can be controlled."
Mohan also said network congestion can impact productivity of users, leading to unstable connections and slow speeds. The other team members of Unicorn were Deepali Singh, Mishal Aishwarya, Harshvardhan Kumar, Vineet Pandey, Kumar Navneet.
Smart India Hackathon '17 was the first event of its kind at the national level. Of 7,500 teams, 1,200 were shortlisted from the country for the grand finale at 29 nodal centres.
