It's time for admissions to the next level with the announcement of Indian Certificate of Secondary Examinations (ICSE) results for Class X on May 18. Students are queuing up at different schools to make enquiries and collect forms for admissions.

Not only ICSE schools, even Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools have announced dates for their admission procedure. Some schools have uploaded the form on their official websites. The admission criterion in different schools varies for CBSE and ICSE students .

Peter Arockiasamy, the principal of St Michael's High School, said all CBSE students would be selected on the basis of an entrance exam while ICSE students will be selected on the cut-off basis. ICSE students who have secured above 85 per cent (math and science) could be directly admitted to the science stream while students with scores above 75 per cent in math can opt for commerce.

St Xavier's High School topper Shashank Shrivastava, who scored 97 per cent hopes for admission to St Michael's High School. He said: "It is one of the best schools in the city and I am looking forward to admission here. I want to opt for science and maths for Intermediate and accomplish my dream of cracking the IIT in my first attempt."

Like Shashank, many of his friends also want to get admission in this school.

Brother Satheesh, principal of Loyola High School, said: "For non-Loyolites, candidates who opt for science stream, must have 85 per cent individually in math and science and for other stream not less than aggregate of 80 per cent. For Loyolites, candidates must have an aggregate of 75 per cent marks in the board exam."

St Michael's school is the first choice for boys, while girls prefer schools such as Mount Carmel High School, St Joseph's Convent High School and Notre Dame Academy. On the second day, St Joseph's Convent High School saw a huge rush of students and parents seeking and enquiring about Class XI admission. The registration form would be available from May 19 to May 29 from 8am to 12noon. "No exams will be conducted. The priority would be given to the students who are from this school and other students who applied would be selected on basis of Class X results," said Sister Lucina, the principal.

Some schools, including St Michael's High School, Notre Dame Academy, Don Bosco Academy, St Karen's Secondary School, Patna Central School and Krishna Niketan would conduct the written entrance test in their respective schools for admission to Class XI.
