Patna, April 11: Students of Class XII who would appear in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) this year are in for a rough ride. They have still not been intimated about the postponement of the exam dates from April 17 to May 22 owing to the Assembly elections there.

Candidates from the state are going to be affected as a large number of them filled up forms for WBJEE.

Many students had booked their tickets, not knowing about the deferral. Not only this, many candidates could not appear for other competitive exams scheduled on April 17 as they had filled up the WBJEE form.

Some students had opted for Calcutta as the centre for Vellore Institute of Technology exams to be held just a day before on April 16. WBJEE does not have a centre at any other place apart from the Bengal capital.

Sources said candidates have not received admit cards for WBJEE yet and when some of them called up to enquire about it, they came to know that the date has been postponed. The information was posted late on the net.

Candidates are now repenting for not filling up forms for other entrance tests.

Nikhil Chandra, a candidate, said: “I just managed to get the train reservations. Now I would have to cancel it. I had not filled up forms for National Defence Academy and Uttar Pradesh Technical Engineering examinations as I chose WBJEE over them.”

Some others rued because they could not make the most of the delay. Kashif Jamal did not fill up forms for WBJEE since he had his VIT entrance exam in Patna. He said: “I did not fill up the form, as it would have been very difficult for me to be travel to Calcutta after appearing for my (VIT entrance) exam.”

Some are, however, a little less dissatisfied. “I have got my tickets cancelled. I would take this opportunity to prepare for WBJEE better.”
