The new academic session for undergraduate courses in colleges under Patna University would start on July 25.

Most colleges under the university have started declaring the results of the entrance tests.

Patna Women’s College announced the entrance results for the BA course on Wednesday. The college has 600 seats for the course. On Tuesday, the college administration declared the results for the 250 seats for the BSc courses.

Poonam Srivastava, whose name featured in the merit list at Patna Women’s College, was happy that she could bag a seat in a college and a course of her choice.

“It is a dream come true for me to bag a seat in Patna Women’s College,” said the 19-year-old. She hailed the entrance test pattern, which opened the college gates for those who have not done well in the Class XII boards this year.

“I had scored 75 per cent in Class XII. With this percentage, my admission to Patna Women’s College would have been tough. The entrance test, in a way, facilitated my admission,” she said. Poonam had applied for admission in BA (English) course.

Many colleges, which had conducted the written test in the first week of July, have announced the entrance test results.

Magadh Mahila College, which conducted the entrance test on July 4, declared the results of the BA courses on Tuesday. The college has also prepared the merit list. The results of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, too, have been declared.

Patna Science College, where 5,000 students appeared for the written test on Monday for 600 seats, is likely to announce the results on Thursday.

Arun Kumar Sinha, the vice-chancellor of Patna University, said: “The results are likely to be announced on Thursday and based on the performance of students in the test, a merit list would be prepared.”

He added: “We were not anticipating such a huge rush because we have just 600 seats. However, around 5,000 students had appeared for the test this year.” With the entrance test, Sinha said the college was expecting quality education for good students.

Patna College and BN College are also likely to declare the entrance results this week.

Since more than 20,000 applications for admission to 3,500 seats in arts, science and commerce streams were received by the PU colleges, many would be disappointed this year.

Those failing to a get a seat in any of the colleges are likely to seek admission in Patna University’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) or join Patna-based Magadh University colleges.
