Patna, June 6: It’s the season of hunger strikes. It seems to be the best bet of all and sundry to vent their protest these days.

Taking a cue from Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev, the students who flunked in Class XII CBSE exam or scored poorly are all set to be on fast track. Their protest is against alleged average marking by the board.

More than 10 Class XII students, upset over the alleged average marking of their papers, are planning to go on a hunger strike in the next few days in demand for rechecking of their answer scripts. They claim that they are left with no other option but to go on a fast.

Kumar Divyam, a student of a city school planning to go on the hunger strike, said CBSE has done less-than-average marking, rather than just average. He has scored six in economics and 25 in accountancy, including 20 in the practical paper and five in the theory.

Divyam said: “I was 110 per cent sure that I would score a minimum 70 in accountancy. Even in economics, where I should have got nothing less than 80, I have just got six.”

He added: “A majority of my friends have got unexpectedly low marks in both these subjects. One cannot get as low as two and four in economics.”

Chandan Kumar, another city student, said: “The Class XII results prove that average marking has been done by the CBSE Patna regional office. I should not have scored less than 80 in chemistry but I have got just 42 in the subject. In English, too, I should have got more than 75 marks but that is not the situation here.”

The members on the list to go on a hunger strike do not comprise students from Patna schools only. Students from other districts would also join them.

Sawan Kumar studies in a school in Samastipur. He said he is planning the same, as his friends and he don’t have any other choice. Sawan has scored 39 and 36 in mathematics and physics, respectively. He, however, expected much more than that.

Sawan said: “My friends and I have the same problem and we have visited the CBSE regional office several times. But all went in vain. We have no other option but to go on a hunger strike.”

Meanwhile, there is no end to the agony of the Class X CBSE students. Confusion is still prevailing on the exact date of announcement of the CBSE Class X results for the Patna region that includes Bihar and Jharkhand. CBSE Class X students in the rest of the country have got their results. Sources in the CBSE regional office said the work to announce the results was on and they are expected by June 9. The sources added that the data that has been fed in the computer is being crosschecked at the regional office. As soon as it is done, it would take another two to three days to announce the results.
