Patna, March 7: The three-day hunger strike by members of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and students of AN College, Motihari, came to end today after the Bihar School Examination Board gave an assurance that it will file a writ petition to a larger bench.

BSEB secretary Anup Kumar Sinha met the protesters on the premises Bihar Intermediate Council and offered them juice in the afternoon. The students were on hunger strike for the past three days protesting the board’s decision to cancel the affiliation of AN College, Motihari, putting the future of more than 950 students at stake.

The board had cancelled the college affiliation last month following an order issued by Patna High Court.

The students’ protest was supported by members of the AISF. On Sunday, AISF members forced their way into the room where the board chairman, A.K.P Yadav, was holding a news conference, and staged a protest. At that time, Yadav was addressing mediapersons over the interme-diate examination.

On Monday, students of AN College and AISF members reached the intermediate council building and created a ruckus there after breaking the lock of the gate.

They gheraoed the building and the council members were trapped inside.

Later, a meeting of intermediate council chairman A.K.P. Yadav and AISF supporters was held which continued for several hours. AISF treasurer Sushil Kumar told The Telegraph: “The council chairman assured us that the council is concerned about the future of the students of AN College and so it would file an affidavit in Patna High Court so that they (the students) can take the examination in April or May.”

Sushil said Yadav also asked the AISF members to file a writ petition in the larger bench of Patna High Court.

Earlier, the condition of Amrish Kumar, who was sitting on the hunger strike, worsened this morning. The doctor who had come for a medical check-up of students asked Amrish to get admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, the entire campus of intermediate council turned into a fortress with police personnel from Kotwali police station camping there for hours to prevent any untoward incident.

According to the case details, the affiliation of AN Singh College, which was established in 1980, was cancelled by the council this year. The college affiliation was cancelled in 2005, but renewed a year later. The issue of college affiliation is also sub-judice with Patna High Court.

The students blamed the management for the situation, pointing out that they were aware that the college’s affiliation has been cancelled, but despite this in the lust for money and in a deliberate attempt to cheat the students, the college allowed students to fill up the forms for the coming intermediate examination.
