Patna, May 26: A student of College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, Gautam Kumar, has created waves through a logo literally.
Gautam has been credited with designing the official logo of the State Disaster Management Authority.
A few months ago, the authority along with the state human resource development (HRD) department had organised a workshop on designing the logo of the authority.
Gautam, was felicitated at a function organised by the State Disaster Management Authority and College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, authorities at a function organised on the college premises today.
The logo bears a circle in which a hand is seen carrying a house and below the hand are waves. Gautam told The Telegraph: “The disaster management authorities during the preparation of the logo had asked to use minimum colour and it should have a concept so that even common men can understand it. The hand, which is carrying a house represents that of Lord Buddha as Bihar happens to be his karmabhoomi.”
Gautam, who had done his graduation in fine arts from College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, added: “It’s a dream come true for me that the logo has been accepted by the State Disaster Management Authority.”
Gautam had done his schooling from Jamshedpur and had later joined the Art and Crafts College in Patna. He has been selected as the master designer in department of designing, IIT-Guwahati. According to Gautam, he owes his success to Amitabh Pandey, a former professor with National School of Design (NID), Ahmedabad.
Atul Aditya Pandey, the principal of Arts and Crafts College said: “A few months ago, the State Disaster Management Authority planned to have its own logo and for this the authority and the state HRD department thought of giving an opportunity to the students of the college for designing the logo.”
A workshop was organised in which around 50 students had participated. Three students were selected and later a jury comprising officials of disaster management and college authorities selected Gautam’s logo, the principal added.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar has also appreciated the logo and said that such talents should be promoted. Pandey, while speaking at the function said the disaster management could have arranged noted artists or even some agencies for preparing the logo but a college student getting an opportunity to design the logo is a huge achievement not only for the students but also for the college. It will bring more students from colleges to showcase their skills, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Kumar Sinha, the vice-president of State Disaster Management Authority, said: “The State Disaster Management, in future will engage students of College of Arts and Crafts, Patna, so that they can get exposure to showcase their skills.”
