
Munger: Over 200 employees of wagon repairing shop number 3 at Jamalpur railway workshop on Monday went on tool-down strike to protest the death of railway employee Srawan Mandal.
The 51-year-old employee got electrocuted during night duty at midnight on Saturday.
He died on the spot while welding a damaged railway wagon in the shop.
"Today's (Monday's) agitation by us railway employees is to press for safe infrastructure to railway employees during working hours in all shops of the Jamalpur Railway Workshop," said Chandan Paswan, a local leader.
"The railway board (New Delhi) has allocated Rs 40 crore to the Jamalpur Railway Workshop (Munger) under the umbrella works project," said Rajiv Kumar, public relation officer(PRO) of Jamalpur Railway Workshop, on Monday.
The authorities will soon ensure best and safe infrastructure and atmosphere to employees in all shops. The workshop authorities have directed engineers of the electricity department to strengthen power safety measures in all shops, particularly the wagon repairing shop number 3 of Jamalpur Railway Workshop.
"On Monday, Jamalpur railway workshop sent an appointment letter to dead railway employee Srawan Mandal's son Ranjeet Kumar in the group-D category. Family pension and other monetary benefits will be sent to family members of the dead worker within a week," PRO Rajiv Kumar said.
