Police believe Ragho Singh and his second wife could have plotted the murders of their daughters but were in the dark about the woman’s name and Singh’s place of posting 24 hours after the incident.

“On Friday around 1.30am, the woman’s home in Aungari village in Nalanda was raided. The police came across her mother and two children. The old lady said the kids were the woman’s nephews. The lady did not mention the name of her daughter. She said the woman, who is in her 30s, did not come down to her house. Her mother is being questioned,” Fatuha deputy superintendent of police Sunita Kumari told The Telegraph.

The officer said the police were also in the dark as to where Singh was posted at present.

“There are two theories doing the rounds. He might be in Assam or Rajasthan. The man seems traceless. He left home two days before the incident. If the woman did not go to her house, where could she have gone? We checked out a few of her relatives’ places, but in vain. The investigations are on and things will come to light very soon,” the officer added.

“It is strange that Singh decided to remarry within 10 months after his first wife died. The girls never wanted their father to remarry and they did not share a good relationship with their stepmother. It seems the woman lured her husband and they planned to eliminate the girls and start a new family. There can be several angles to the incident and the statement of the injured girl will be crucial,” a police source said.

Two of Singh’s three daughters died on the spot after being shot at by criminals in small hours of Thursday. The third is battling for life at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
