Is 17-year-old Shailja. She is a winner in any form of speaking — debates, elocutions or declamations.

First prize…

Came her way in Class III when Shailja won the school elocution contest.

Several awards…

Shailja has won in recent years. September 2008, she secured the third prize in an elocution contest organised by St Michael’s High School. She was also named the most promising speaker in October 2010 at the Papiya Ghosh Memorial Inter-School Debate Competition.

Multi-talented…

Is Shailja. She won the second prize at the district-level ASISC’s Creative Writing Contest last year. The teenager has also participated in several painting competitions.

Artistic ventures…

Include international-level T-shirt painting competition organised in 2009. Next year September, at a competition organised by two non-government organisations, Shailja’s painting on gender equality was named among the best five art work. In November 2007, she won the first prize in a state-level painting contest — Make a Greeting Card for the Defence Forces — organised by BN Srivastava Foundation.
