Swimming champ…

Is 16-year-old Neha Singh. She has won two silver and two bronze medals in the ICSE nationals and four silver and one bronze medal in CBSE zonal swimming competition.

Neha has been a state-level champion in the junior and senior level for past the six years. In state and zonal-level events, she has won more than 100 medals and 25 championship trophies.

Sports is tradition…

In Neha’s family. He maternal grandfather Jivanand Singh was a hockey player. Her mother Nanda Singh was a springer (athlete) and was selected for the 9th ASIAD, held in Delhi, but could not participate in the event. Neha’s father Birendra Nath Singh is a state-level lawn tennis and snooker player. He elder brother Nihal Singh is a national-level lawn tennis player.

Gifted swimmer…

Is Neha. She started swimming when she was nine-year-old. Her brother was advised by a doctor to practice swimming for six months. Neha joined her brother in the swimming classes and soon realised she was good at it.

Expert help…

Came Neha’s way when international swimmer Deepak Kumar Singh trained her for a month. Singh made Neha cover a distance of 50 metres in a record 42 seconds, an major improvement from the earlier 49 seconds. Singh achieved it in a span of just nine days.

Poor facilities…

Bother Neha as she is unable to practice regularly because of a lack of swimming pools (private ones) in Patna. Bihar Swimming Federation does not have a swimming pool of its own which add to the problems.

Global fame…

Is what Neha wants. She wants to take part in international events and bring laurels to the country. She also wants to become an IAS officer.,
