Gaya: Gaya MP Hari Manjhi is passing through a rough patch after his son's arrest for liquor violation, his liking a Facebook post in which Lalu Prasad taunted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and then for purportedly meeting Lalu in a Ranchi court.

His son Rahul Manjhi's arrest, a second time, for a repeat violation of prohibition, has apparently made the senior Manjhi tizzy, says JDU leader Lalji Prasad.

Stories regarding the Lalu-Manjhi meet had gone viral but all that the MP did to salvage his position was to address a four-line complaint to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) alleging fake news being spread on social media.

Asked about the follow-up action, Gaya SSP Garima Malik said the city deputy superintendent of police sought the controversial footage from the MP but it was not given.

The recent indiscretions of his son certainly do not augur well for the MP's political future. Conceding that his son's arrest has caused him avoidable embarrassment, Hari said his party leadership knew well that he was not a "protective" father and never misused his position to protect or promote his family and, as such, getting the party ticket in 2019 should not post much of a problem. The MP has not personally done anything wrong, said Akhauri Niranjan, member of the state executive of the BJP and cannot be held responsible for the alleged indiscretions of his son.
