Patna, Oct. 31: A man snatched a 57-year-old woman's earring this morning at the Harmandir Gali area, injuring her grievously as a part of the flesh came off.

The spot is located only 700m away from the Chowk police station of Patna City, exposing the fearlessness of criminals.
Writhing in pain and numbed with shock, Paati Gali resident Meena said she was more worried for her ear rather than the earring. "A part of my left ear is gone. I had gone for some work in the morning and was returning home. Suddenly I found myself being strangled. Before I could realise anything, another hand came in and blinded me. I felt a sharp pain on my left ear and realised that the man was trying to snatch my earring. I tried to fight and covered my right ear. At last, I saw a man wearing a green shirt running at top speed after pushing me aside," she said.
Residents informed the family who took her to the police station where an FIR was lodged. "It is a barbaric incident. The police have lodged an FIR and the victim has been sent for treatment. The victim is in a state of shock but her statement has been taken. The police will be talking to her in detail and try to gather information about the physical appearance of her attacker," an officer at Chowk police station said.
Incidents of snatchings and loots have turned out to become a common affair in the state capital. On June 8, bike-borne criminals had looted a sum of Rs 7.91 lakh from two people in daylight from the Buddha Colony area. On June 21, one person was shot and Rs 25,000 robbed from him at the Dadar Mandi area.
On April 29, criminals looted a sum of around Rs 5.2 lakh from two employees of a financial company near Bela village. A couple of days back, two persons on a bike snatched away a woman's gold chain in the city. The police, however, said efforts had been made to control loot and snatching in Patna. "All the police stations have been directed to increase patrolling. The police are working on a plan aimed to strengthen the quick mobile units in all police stations," an officer said.
