| (From left) Bihar Motors Sports Club Limited members Ashok Kumar Sinha, Diljeet Khanna and secretary Ranjit Kumar Das address a news conference in Patna on Wednesday. The club, to provide opportunity to senior citizens to showcase their skills at an advanced age, will organise a senior citizens’ car rally, to be sponsored by Heart Hospital, Kankerbagh, on May 6. The organisers said the car rally is the first-of-its-kind initiative in India for those aged 60 years or above. The car rally will be flagged off from hotel Chanakya at 7am on May 6 and will cover a distance of approximately 45km through different parts of the state capital before ending at its origin. “Only persons aged 60 and above will be able to participate in the rally. Besides being medically fit to drive, each senior citizen should hold a valid driving licence and be conversant with traffic and road signs as prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,” said Ranjit Kumar Das. Only 30 persons would be able to take part in the rally on a first-come-first-serve basis. “There is no entry fee. Interested persons need to fill up a form, which would be available at Siddhartha Advertising, Five Diamond Hotel Complex on Frazer Road and at Automobiles Association of Eastern India on SP Verma Road. The last date for submission of forms is May 4. Diljeet Khanna, another member, said it would not be a speed car rally. “The competitors will be given a route inside Patna town through which they will drive according to the given speed. The competitors would be assisted by navigators to calculate the time for covering different sections of the town.” Text by Shuchismita Chakraborty, picture by Jai Prakash |
