Patna, July 13: The special investigating team (SIT) of Patna police probing the Intermediate topper scandal will request the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) to cancel the results of 44 students of Vishun Roy College, Vaishali.

These 44 students are in addition to the four toppers against whom FIRs have already been lodged.

"It has been found that these students had been provided with two registration numbers," Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj, who is heading the SIT, said adding: "Two registration number allowed these candidates to procure two admit cards and using this they had the opportunity to submit two answer sheets and the better one was used for awarding them maximum possible marks."

Explaining, the officer said: "Suppose one boy has two admit cards and has good connections, one of the proxy writers using impersonation was suspected to have written his answer sheet and thus he could get high marks."

Sources in the BSEB had told The Telegraph earlier this month that results of all the students of the Vishun Roy College has been withheld and could see a cancellation.

"The anomalies in connection with the functioning of the college are too many and there have been several irregularities like change of answer sheets, fielding dummy candidates and others during the whole examination process of the college. For now, the BSEB had withheld the results of all the students of the college numbering 699," a senior BSEB official had told The Telegraph.

The Intermediate examinations, which were conducted in February this year, had seen 649 students of the college appearing in the science stream. The arts stream saw 33 students while the commerce stream saw 17 students appearing in the examinations from the college. While the examination centre of the college was wrongly fixed at Vaishali based GA Inter School, the evaluation centre for the college was fixed at Rajendra Nagar (Patna) based Government Boys Senior Secondary School. The principals of both these colleges are presently in jail.

An SIT member said: "It has been said earlier that with Lalkeshwar and his wife Usha Sinha at the helm, corruption was going on totally unabated in the BSEB. There was not one to see, question and check on their malpractices. The police are getting more details on the modus operandi. These students will be traced and they, along with their parents, will be made accused in the case. It is the BSEB which provides roll codes, roll numbers, registration numbers and others to the students."

The person added: "With the scandal coming to fore, the SIT officers, especially the Patna SSP, have got more than 2,000 messages from students and commoners. All of them are citing some or other problems they suspect are happening in the colleges and want an investigation. However, now the primary work of the SIT is the arrest of those absconding," another SIT member said.
