Single delight in triple fight for Dal

Chhapra, June 30: JD(U)-backed candidates lost the election to the post of chairperson in the district boards in Saran and Siwan, held today. However, the candidate the party supported in Gopalganj emerged victorious.

In Gopalganj, Chanda Devi won by five votes. She is the wife of Vijay Singh, who has been booked in several cases of murder and robbery and is presently out on bail. She secured 18 votes.

Chanda defeated her nearest rival and former chairperson of the district board Urmila Devi, who was supported by JD(U) MLA Amrinder Pandey. Chanda was also supported by another JD(U) MLA Manjit Singh.

Urmila is the wife of underworld don Satish Pandey, against whom there are several pending cases of loot, murder and kidnap.

In Siwan, Fauzdar Chauhan, is set to become the chairman of district as he secured 25 votes after Mohammad Rizvan, supported by the RJD, secured just 11 votes.

Chauhan had the support of Om Prakash Yadav, who is the Independent MP from Siwan.

Meanwhile, Ashok Kumar Singh has been elected as the vice-chairman. He secured 14 votes. Other rivals for the post of vice-chairman were Rampati Devi, Sangita Devi and Sunita Devi, who secured nine, nine and eight votes respectively. In Saran, a candidate supported by the RJD won as the chairperson. Menhaj Alam, who has been elected as the chairperson in Saran district, was supported by Prabhunath Singh, a former JD(U) MP.

Prabhunath joined hands with the RJD after his relations with the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, was strained.

After Mehnaj won, she attributed her victory to the former JD(U) MP.

Nagendra Kumar Singh has been elected as the vice-chairman in Saran. He defeated Purushottam Singh Gudda. Nagendra secured 24 votes while Purushottam secured 23.
