Bhagalpur, Nov. 8: Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan authorities will impart training on making silk items to girls who have dropped out of school midway.
As part of the project titled Gyan Jyoti Residential Training under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the girls would learn how to make items such as bed and pillow covers, bags and purses with Bhagalpur silk.
Subhash Kumar Gupta, district programme officer of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Bhagalpur, said the aim was to train the girls with skills that could help them earn. Besides, they would be encouraged to complete their education.
Gupta added that the project would be launched this month and 288 girls from 96 Adarsh Sankul Madhya Vidyalayas in the district would initially receive the training.
“We will select three girls from each school for the basic training programme. During the 15-day training session, the participants will learn various techniques of making silk items and market them,” he said.
According to sources, the project would be a boost for girls and women associated with silk manufacturing units in areas such as Champanagar, Maskand Barari, Hussainabad, Tanti Bazar Hariapur and Radhanagar in Nathnagar block.
“Many girls and women who had been associated with the silk industry were illiterate and didn’t have the opportunity to go to school. But the project would provide training as well as educational opportunities, it would have a positive impact in society,” the sources added.
