JDU president Sharad Yadav will meet Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, his former Janata Dal colleague who is now in alliance with the BJP, on Saturday, reports PTI.Sayeed, whose party PDP's ties with the BJP have been far from smooth, will be hosting a lunch for Sharad in Jammu. The meeting between the two leaders, who were ministers in the then Janata Dal government in 1989, comes amid a unification move by the splinter groups of the Janata parivar. The JDU is among the six parties which merged on April 15 to form a new party whose name and symbol have not been finalised yet. Sharad said he would have a luncheon meeting with Sayeed but declined to elaborate."Janata parivar" has little base in Jammu and Kashmir but its leadership is looking to align with regional parties across the country to constitute a strong anti-BJP bloc. The ruling parties in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Samajwadi Party (SP) and the JDU, respectively, and RJD, INLD, JD(S) and Samajwadi Janata Party had merged at a meeting at the residence of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been chosen to head the new outfit. The merger comes almost two decades after the erstwhile Janata Dal disintegrated in the 1990s.
