Babli claims he doesn’t yearn for respect nor fears humiliation but his silver screen adventure earned the love of the audience by the tonnes on Wednesday.
A promotional visit to the city by the leading man, carpet-bombing promotion and a large number of shows helped Besharam become shamelessly successful.
The action comedy starring Ranbir Kapoor (playing street-smart car thief Babli), along with his yesteryear superstar parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh and newcomer Pallavi Sharda, played all its cards right.
A national holiday release, Ranbir’s visit to Patna on September 29 and 34 shows — the highest for any film in Patna till now — worked its magic.
The film earned Rs 16,92,689 on Wednesday, more than Chennai Express, which had released on Id (August 9) and earned Rs 16,85,786.
The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, however, had only 31 shows.
Film critic and adviser of Cine Society, Patna, R.N. Das said: “When Ranbir visited Patna, he was very confident about the success of the film. In the era of social media marketing, Besharam seems to have got the formula just right.”
He added: “As no other major film is releasing before October 11, Besharam will continue to do good business.”
As Ranbir fans queued up in front of the box office, the prices of tickets soared. Some were ready to pay as much as Rs 300 for tickets priced at Rs 180 at Mona cinema. Almost all shows were houseful.
