Patna: The academic session of Simultala Residential School, Jamui, will get delayed this year too.
According to rules, the new academic session has to commence from April 1. But the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), which conducts the entrance examination, has neither issued examination dates for the preliminary test nor for the mains examination. The last date for submission of application forms is now April 25.
The academic session of Simultala Residential School getting delay assumes importance as the education department in 2016 to streamline the academic session and infrastructure development at the school had formed a six-member committee. The committee, in its reports, had recommended that the school conduct the entrance test. But despite the committee's recommendations, the Bihar School Examination Board is carrying out the entrance test for Simulatala Residential School this year too.
According to school sources, the tentative date for the preliminary is end-May, while the mains examination will be held by end-June. A senior faculty member of Simultala Residential School, preferring anonymity, said: "Even if the mains examination is held by end-June, it will take two to three months to declare the results and medical test. In the given situation, the session is unlikely to begin before October/November."
The faculty member added: "If the session starts in October, the students will get only six months to complete their academic session." The entrance test will be in Class VI for 120 seats (60 boys and 60 girls).
Last year, the entrance test was held for classes VI, VII and IX as in 2013 and 2015, there was zero session. Last year, the preliminary entrance test of Simultala Residential School was held on April 9 followed by the mains examination in August and final results declared on October 4. The results were announced for 360 candidates (180 boys and 180 girls).
School principal Rajiv Ranjan said: "The school has little role in deciding the examination schedule as the examination is being carried out by the BSEB. But we hope that this time the session is not delayed as on earlier occasions."
According to BSEB sources, the delay in holding examinations is mainly because of directions from the education department. BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said: "The board conducts the examination only on the directions of the education department. The entrance test for the Simultala Residential School and Teachers' Eligibility Test are being carried out on the directions of the education department and the board has no role in fixing the examination schedule.
Sources said because of the irregular academic session, the popularity of Simultala Residential School is on the wane.
