Sensory integration therapy can be a boon for children suffering from various neurological disorders, including autism, cerebral palsy and Down's syndrome, experts said at a symposium on paediatrics neuro-rehabilitation.
On the benefits of the therapy for children suffering from neurological disorders, Delhi-based occupational therapist Niraj Mishra said: "Sensory integration therapy makes patients do various physical activities, which help develop their senses. It improves muscle strength, flexibility and control. It aims to make the child self-dependent as he/she can sit without taking any support and can also stand or walk on his/her own."
Divyashakti, an orthocare, trauma and rehabilitation centre at Viklang Bhavan, organised the event on Sunday.
Delhi-based occupational therapist Rashmi Sinha said: "Late marriages, pre-mature birth, nuclear family are among the many reasons behind the increase in neurological disorders among children,"
