Patna: Bihar police radio has gone hi-tech and become more secure.

The new facility will help connect with police personnel staying in far-flung places through the high-tech wireless network system with more clarity of voice. The system is also beneficial since the conversation can't be intercepted.

A senior police official posted at the police headquarters said on Friday that initially Patna and Nalanda police had been equipped with digital wireless sets. A similar facility has also been provided to the security personnel deployed at the official residence of the chief minister and the governor.

The officer said at present the wireless network is based on the analogue system, which is obsolete and could hardly cover far-away districts without emitting a humming sound during daytime. "The new system is more sophisticated and is marked by clarity of voice," he said.

The sets will be provided to police officials in five phases. In the first phase, the police stations falling under Patna and Nalanda (central range) have been covered. In the second phase, the police stations falling under Bhagalpur range will be covered, he added.

The poor communication system in Aurangabad cost the life of a CoBRA jawan a few days ago. "We could not communicate to the senior officials about the bullet wounds received by the jawan during combing operation in Chakarbandha forest in Aurangabad. The chopper reached the spot late to take the injured jawan to the hospital due to the bad communication system," a Central Reserve Police Force official said.
