Schools in the city will remain closed on Friday to escape the diversions and other vehicle movement restrictions in place in light of Nitish Kumar's swearing-in as chief minister at Gandhi Maidan.
"We know how much it will be inconvenient for the bus drivers, automobiles, parents and especially for the students given the restrictions. So, we decided to cancel classes on Friday. But students from classes I to XII will attend Tuckshop - a school fete, which will start from seven in the morning and will conclude as soon as possible," said Sister Jessie, the principal of Notre Dame Academy.
St Michael's High School will reopen from Monday after a festival break as some students have gone on an educational tour.
Peter Arockiasamy, the school principal, said: "Every year, we send students to a particular state or place during the Chhath and Diwali break for learning purpose and make projects on that. This year, we sent our students to South India to visit temples and ruins. The tour started on November 11 and the students will return on November 22. Classes will resume from Monday."
He added: "The second terminal exam would start from November 23. So, we students an extended break to prepare for the examinations."
Albert Abraham, the vice-principal of St Xavier's High School, said the school will be closed because of the swearing-in ceremony.
"The VIP gate of Gandhi Maidan is right in front of the school which will cause inconvenience for us."
"It is good if the school remains closed, as we will have more time to revise for the exam. Owing to the festivities, I did not pay much attention to studies," said Arnav Kumar, a Class XII student at St Michael's High School.
For Class II student Shreyas of St Dominic Savio's High School, it will be family time. "We have decided to go out in the evening and watch a movie. On Saturday and Sunday, I will spend time playing with my friends," he said.
However, colleges will remain open on Friday. Most institutions, including colleges of Patna University, Magadh University, technical institutions such as NIT, BIT, CNLU, CIMP and others, which were closed because of Diwali and Chhath, will reopen on Friday.
Patna University pro-vice-chancellor R.K. Verma said: "The colleges will not close down for the oath ceremony as the function will start in the afternoon."
