Patna, Aug. 25: To reduce the stress of competition among students and evaluate them in complete spirit, Central Board of Secondary Education had introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system to evaluate students of classes IX and X.
However, half-hearted implementation of the system in a few schools of Patna like Holy Mission, Leed’s Asian School and Eklavya Educational Complex has left students and teachers feeling that it has not only increased competition but also ruined careers of many students in a way.
The system aims to focus on all internal assessments and project works to grades in the examinations. In fact, grades of Class IX also had to be included in those of Class X board examination. The students feel that CBSE’s vague system of marking has made students lose interest in studies.
Anup of Class XI said: “CCE is one of the biggest mistakes of CBSE and it has ruined our careers to a great extent. In classes IX and X, students good at sports but not at studies were found relaxed. They clinched better grades than meritorious students and got easy admission in big city schools.”
Rahul of Class XI said: “Students good only at sports later face trouble because they cannot keep up with the pace of fast teaching in higher classes.”
K.K. Jain, the CBSE deputy secretary, Patna region, said: “Instructions regarding this were sent directly to the schools. The non-compliance might be attributed to a policy matter of the respective schools.”
