School students are doing their bit to pitch in for flood victims, with the kind of love that only kids can show. While some are emptying their piggybanks to buy medicines, others are getting special material made with extra care.
The Jesus and Mary Academy of Patna City on Thursday sent relief material that around 350 students of the school had collected.
"Students sent food items such as bread, biscuits, rice, pulses, fruits, as well as medicines and other necessary things as part of the relief material that was sent to the flood victims," said school vice-principal Puja Ann. "Many students took extra caution while packing the food. They seemed very concerned about the safe transportation of the food to the flood victims. That they are so sensible at this age makes us proud.
"Students even brought some stuff that we had not even instructed them to but which could be very useful for flood victims," she added. "One student brought small-sized mosquito nets stitched by her mother. Some students ensured vacuum packing for chura (beaten rice)."
Hardik, a student of Class VIII, said: "It was very satisfying to send relief material to flood victims. Our aim was not only to send the relief material to the victims just for the sake of sending it to them; we really wanted to help."
Shweta Kumari, Class IV student, said she used her pocket money to buy medicines for the flood victims.
Farhat Hassan, director of International School, said her institution would also send relief material. "Students will be told to collect as much stuff as they can. They should pitch in such kind of drives; after all they are part of this society. They should step forward in this moment of crisis," Hassan said.
Educational institutions in the flood-hit districts are also coming forward to help. Students of North Point Children School in Muzaffarpur sent a truck full of relief material on August 19.
"Apart from sending old clothes, a few students donated new clothes," said school principal M. Mitra. "State agriculture minister Prem Kumar had come to take the relief material."
Students of Sunshine Preparatory High School in Muzaffarpur sent relief material on August 21. "We sent it to the Red Cross Society," said principal N. Singh.
