Patna, Dec. 28: Students and faculty members of Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Gardanibagh, today celebrated its 50th anniversary with cultural events on the school premises.

Food and civic supplies minister Shyam Rajak, who was the chief guest for the occasion, said: “Our government is keen on providing education for everyone. Education of girls is especially important. We have launched several schemes — like Cycle Yojna — to help the cause. Girls are not lagging behind in anyway.”

Anjani Kumar Singh, the principal secretary of human resource development department, said: “All schools for girls run by the state government will have separate bathrooms. Girls would be provided with all the facilities they need. They should not face any problems when it comes to studies.”

A.K.P. Yadav, the chairman of Bihar School Examination Board, said how easy it has become for students to take examinations. Many changes had been made in the syllabus and the marking scheme has also become more lenient.

A student is given some marks for even attempting a question, said Yadav,

Kumari Vimla Sinha, the principal of the school, discussed the achievements of the school. Sinha said: “The school is proud of its students who have made it proud through its performance. Tripta Bhatiya, an ex-student, is working with Indian Space Research Organisation.”

The current batch of students of the school put up a number of events for the occasion. The girls performed a musical event titled Mera Vidyalaya.

A skit — Sunhare Sapne — was also put up. The play showcased how the dreams of a girl to get educated are continuously thwarted because of some reason or the other.

The skit also showcased the conditions prevalent in the state and how girls, especially those who live in villages, dream big but have no way to satisfy their dreams.

But the skit also showed how the Nitish Kumar-led government had turned things around. Not only had various schemes been introduced, but steps had also been taken to ensure education for girls.

The students of the school also performed Rajasthani and Bhojpuri folk dances, along with Kawwali.

Anurag Kumar, the project coordinator of Srikrishna Science Centre, was also present on the occasion. “I have a special connection with the school. My mother, Bimala Roy was the principal of this school,” said Kumar.
