Patna, March 15: The general secretary of the State Bank of India Staff Association, Patna circle (Bihar and Jharkhand), Jai Nandan Singh, surrendered before the CBI court, Patna, today in connection with disproportionate assets case worth Rs 56 lakh.
Special judge CBI, Bashishth Narayan Singh sent him in judicial custody till March 28.
On behalf of the accused, a regular bail petition has also been filed on which the hearing has been scheduled on March 24.
Special public prosecutor, CBI, Brijesh Kumar Singh took time from the court for opposing the petition.
The accused was the general secretary of SBI Staff Association, Patna circle, since 1992 and also the chief secretary of SBI Staff Association (central) consisting of as seven circles covering 20 states and also assistant secretary, All India SBI Staff Federation.
When the FIR was lodged against him, he was posted as a special assistant, personal department, SBI, Patna Branch.
Central Bureau of Investigation, Patna Branch, registered the disproportionate case on May 30, 2008.
The chargesheet had been filed by the CBI on November 30, 2009 against Singh and his wife Vijaya Singh. After that cognizance was taken by the court against him on January 19, last year.
According to the chargesheet, the accused had acquired huge assets by illegal means from March 2000 to March, 2008, which was disproportionate to the known sources of his income. Accused Singh had acquired house/plots at Darbhanga, Patna, Delhi and other places in his own name and also in the name of his family members worth about Rs 56 lakh.
