Three officers of the Dalmianagar branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in Rohtas district have come under the scanner following a complaint lodged by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) accusing them of depositing fake currency notes.

Ram Jatan Paswan, the manager of RBI, Patna, lodged a complaint with Dalmianagar police outpost in Rohtas district on Saturday, alleging that the officials of the bank concerned sent seven fake currency notes to the RBI in Patna last January.

The notes in the denomination of Rs 500 were found to be fake in the course of examination.

The station house officer (SHO) of the Dalmianagar police outpost, S.K. Verma, said: “The complaint had been lodged against the manager, cashier and the accountant of the bank.” Verma added that sub-inspector M.K. Srivastava has been asked to investigate the case lodged under Sections 489(B), 489(C) and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code. Srivastava visited Patna on Sunday to acquire details of the fake currency sent to the RBI Patna.

A senior RBI official said the details of the seven counterfeit notes with the face value of Rs 3,500 have been provided to the investigating officer. He added that for the first time, counterfeit notes have been sent to the RBI by any nationalised (commercial) bank in the state. The officers associated with the investigation said efforts were on to ascertain the links of the errant bankers with those involved in circulation of counterfeit notes.

“The accused will be summoned to the police station soon for questioning,” the investigating officer said.
