The poor functioning of the sadar hospital has irked the administration.

Acting on the directive of Munger district magistrate Uday Kumar Singh, civil surgeon Srinath on Wednesday said a day's salary of hospital eye surgeon Dr Rayess and orthopaedics surgeon Dr R.K. Gupta had been withheld.

The Telegraph had on Wednesday reported how Munger RJD MLA Bijoy Kumar Bijoy could not get his blood pressure measured at the hospital owing to unavailability of BP machines.

Both these doctors had been found missing from the duty when the civil surgeon made an inspection of the hospital on Tuesday after getting the complaint of.

Both these doctors have been asked to explain the reason for their absence. If their replies are not found satisfactory, the administration would take action as per the service rules.

The civil surgeon further said: "Two other senior medical officers, Dr K. Ranjan and Dr Raman Kumar have also been served showcause notices by him on charge of leaving the district headquarters without getting written approvals from the DM and the civil surgeon. If their replies are not found satisfactory, action would be taken against them."

Srinath said during a surprise inspection on July 26, he had found several anomalies including defunct sphygmomanometers after which disciplinary action was taken.

He also revealed that during inspection he came across the poor functioning of the special neonatal care unit.

Expressing satisfaction over the action taken by the local administration Bijoy said more such actions were required to improve the functioning of government hospitals in the district.

Bijoy also urged all the lawmakers and senior government officials to visit government hospitals for their health related problems as it would give them a firsthand feel of the quality of services being delivered and also raise the issue in case they found some problems.
