Patna, Feb. 17: Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar today slapped showcause notices on two cops after complaints of corruption and misbehaviour against them by the public.

At the SSP’s weekly janata durbar, maximum cases were related to land disputes, police inaction and men-in-uniform demanding bribe.

“Such kind of behaviour will not be tolerated. The job of the police is to help people in need. The FIRs need to be duly registered and the investigations have to be fast. Corruption will not be tolerated and policemen involved in the same will have to face the music,” the SSP said.

The two policemen, against whom showcause notices were issued, were the station house officers of Mehendiganj and Beur police stations.

A woman complained about the Mehendiganj SHO’s misbehaviour. The other cop was also reprimanded and slapped with a showcause for his alleged involvement in corruption. “How can you misbehave with a complainant and that too a woman? This is not acceptable,” the SSP told the SHO over the phone.

The officer admitted that cases of land disputes were numerous. “Many cases with regard to land disputes have been raised today. Cases pertained to illegal capture of land, usurp of land by befooling the land owner or even illegal construction by force on somebody else’s land. The matters have been taken into account and the police stations concerned have been asked to make detailed inquires and place their report soon,” the officer said.

Cases of police being impolite and arrogant towards the complainants also turned up in dozens. There were cases of police not carrying on investigations properly or even siding with the criminals and troubling the people.

“All the matters that have come up will be properly probed and necessary action will be initiated. People should not be harassed or bribes taken ,” he added.
