Patna: Patna police on Tuesday busted a gang of robbers involved in several loots across the city.
The seven-member gang, all of whom are from Bengal, was arrested from Kachuara Mor bridge under the jurisdiction of Gopalpur police station.
The gang members used to sell blankets in Patna during the day and conduct a recee on houses they would loot at night.
The members also used to loot four-wheelers on national and state highways passing through Gopalpur, Ramkrishna Nagar, Parsa Bazar and other areas.
Mohammad Salim led the seven-member gang while the other members included Mohammad Buddin, Ramesh Choudhary, Mohammad Aajib, Uttam Haldar, Shahbar Sheikh and Sagar Sheikh.
The police also found three pistols, six cartridges, rods and other instruments used in breaking door locks.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said: "We had information about gangs operating in Gopalpur, Parsa Bazar, RK Nagar and other rural areas.
The Bengali-speaking gang members targeted four-wheelers and isolated houses in these areas."
Based on the tip-off, the Patna SSP constituted a team headed by sub-divisional police officer, sadar, Sushant Kumar Saroj and policemen from Gopalpur, RK Nagar, Parsa Bazar and others.
The police on Monday night got information that a gang had assembled at Kachuara Mor bridge and were plotting a loot.
When the police raided the area the robbers tried to flee but were nabbed.
An officer at Gopalpur police station said: "The arrested criminals confessed they were operating in Patna for the past four months and used to target houses in isolated areas after a recee was done while selling blankets during day time."
The gang members said they used to sell the looted household items in Bengal.
