A couple attacked by robbers on Saturday night had to move to a private nursing home on Sunday after failing to find proper facilities at Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Maner residents Ranjeet Singh and wife Reena Singh who had been admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) with injures received during a robbery, shifted to a private health facility on Sunday.

On Saturday night, Singh and his wife were assaulted by robbers who attacked their home at Brajnandan Nagar under the jurisdiction of Maner police station in rural Patna.

They were admitted to the emergency ward of the PMCH. But on Sunday, the couple shifted to a private nursing home, as they were not allotted any beds in the largest health hub of the state. The Telegraph found their names in the PMCH register.

A paramedic, who attended to the couple at the emergency ward of the hospital, said they left without informing the doctor treating them. “The couple had come here with head injuries,” he added.

Ramesh Singh, a relative of the victims who had come to the PMCH to visit them, said that he too was searching for Singh and his wife. “Had the facilities been available, they would not have left the PMCH,” he said.

A gang of armed criminals barged into the couple’s home around midnight on Saturday and assaulted Singh when he offered resistance to them. Finding her husband bleeding profusely, Singh’s wife immediately handed over the ornaments she was wearing.

But the robbers were not satisfied and they asked for more ornaments. They assaulted her with revolver butts causing injuries on her head. Their two children were also not spared. The robbers took away cash and valuables worth over Rs 1 lakh.

Station house officer of Maner police station Aditya Kumar said efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the gang involved.

“So far, no arrest has been made in connection with the case,” he added.

A team of experts from the state forensic science laboratory collected fingerprints from the house.

A special team, headed by the station house officer of Maner, has been constituted to arrest the robbers, he added.

Sub-divisional police officer of Danapur, Sushant Kumar Saroj, said two bags, which the robbers had taken with them, were recovered from a road leading to Shanti Nagar early in the morning. The bags were empty.
