Patna: Law and order has collapsed in Bihar, a five-member RJD delegation led by leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav told Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday.
The RJD delegation met with the governor for 45 minutes and submitted a three-page memorandum that talks about atrocities against Dalits, tribals and people of minority communities in the past six months.
RJD national vice-president Shivanand Tiwari, Hilsa MLA Shakti Singh Yadav, former parliamentarian Mangni Lal Mandal and former minister Shiva Chandra Ram accompanied Tejashwi.
"We have informed the honourable governor that the poor people are not safe in the regime of Nitish Kumar," Tejashwi said after the meeting. "The RJD has requested him to compare the crime graph during the Grand Alliance government and after. The graph has shot up manifold in the JDU-BJP regime. Dalits, tribals and people of minority community are the worst hit."
The kind of fear that exists in the state is unprecedented in the history of Bihar, claimed the memorandum, written on the official letterhead of the leader of Opposition. "There is chaos and fear. Not a single day passes without incidents of murder and loot. There is partiality going on in the investigations to save the people in bureaucracy," Tejashwi said.
The memorandum mentions Nandan village in Buxar district from where more than 38 persons, mostly Dalits, have been arrested over the attack on the chief minister's convoy on January 12 this year. It also talks about the case a tribal man, Puran Chero, who died in police custody in Bhagwanpur block of Kaimur district allegedly after being tortured.
"Criminals are free to rob anyone. Ransom calls have become a common affair and the police and administration are busy downplaying cases to save face," Tejashwi alleged. "We have informed the governor because he holds the top constitutional post in the state. We have requested governor sir to intervene to save the people's lives."
