Acting like a responsible political party, the RJD on Thursday initiated steps to restore the look of Gandhi Maidan — the venue of its Parivartan Rally.

The Telegraph found at least seven people engaged in rolling up the barbed wires and cleaning the grounds. Tractors and carts were hired to carry away the bamboos. Even posters and banners were being removed.

The public address system, including loudspeakers, lights and big hoardings of Lalu Prasad were removed last (Wednesday) night itself. Green carpets, chairs and table were also removed on Thursday. The water tanks placed across the Maidan to quench the thirst of the supporters were removed late in the evening.

Upendra Sahni, an employee of the company that had set up the stage for the rally, said: “By (Thursday) evening, the Gandhi Maidan would be back in its earlier shape. We have been asked by the RJD leaders to clean everything from the Maidan.”

Busy dismantling the main stage in the morning, Sahni said: “The work to remove the posters, banners and flags started last (Wednesday) evening as soon as the rally got over.”

Parties organising events at Gandhi Maidan are supposed to clean it as soon as they are over. In the yesteryears, the RJD seldom started the cleaning work a day after a rally. But this time, its leaders initiated steps to restore the venue soon after the “disciplined” Parivartan Rally was over.

The RJD’s state unit president, Ram Chandra Purbey, said: “Our supporters maintained discipline and did not create any problem for others on the rally day. The cleaning of the Gandhi Maidan is the continuation of the sequence.”

Residents are obviously happy with the initiative of the RJD . “I thought the Maidan would be in a mess at least for a week. But the effort of the RJD to clean the venue just a day after the rally is commendable,” said Ram Naresh Singh, a resident of Bakarganj.

Ashok Rajpath resident Avinash Kumar said: “We come here to play cricket just near the concrete stage. I thought our game would be affected for few days but things are looking nice now.”
