Patna, Dec. 10: Lalu Prasad has called a meeting of RJD legislators, parliamentarians and office-bearers next week to prepare the strategy for a movement against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation decision.

The meeting has been called at 10 Circular Road on December 17 where the RJD chief will gather feedback to build the movement against Modi's move.

Lalu had attacked Modi two days ago too, asking whether the Prime Minister would put in his papers if people's problems arising out of demonetisation were not resolved in 50 days.

"It's been 32 days since demonetisation and the situation is going from bad to worse. There is economic emergency in the nation and our PM is sitting idle," RJD state president Ram Chandra Purbey said today. "Despite our 'Aakrosh March' at every district headquarter (on November 28), there is no respite and now our leader Lalu ji has decided to launch a movement against Modi's decision and has called a meeting on December 17. Laluji will take feedback from the ground before planning strategy ."

The RJD had decided not to join the shutdown called by opposition parties on November 28 but staged a protest against the withdrawal of 1,000 and 500-rupee notes. Lalu and his party's movement against demonetisation is in contrast with chief minister Nitish Kumar's support for the move but the alliance partners insist there is no division in the Bihar government.

Nitish has described the Centre's demonetisation decision " sahsik (courageous)" and said it would help in the fight against black money. Purbey, who was accompanied by secretary-general Mundrika Singh Yadav, said the Grand Alliance was intact and it was the RJD's decision to protest against demonetisation.

"We are concerned about our agenda, it is the RJD which is opposing the stand because we are concerned about the problems faced by the people," Purbey said. "We are getting calls from the ground that people are standing in queues for hours. So how can we sit idle? As per reports in different newspapers we have come to know that over 100 people have died because of this decision. Demonetisation is just to convert black money into white money."

Nitish too has earlier clarified that the Grand Alliance was only in Bihar and on issues concerning Bihar, but for matters outside the state, every party (ally) is free to have their own view.

The December 17 meeting will start at 11am. Rabri Devi and her two minister-sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav would be present with other senior leaders.
