Patna, May 20: After a book, now it’s a website that would provide computer education to students for free.

A Patna College student has developed a portal, www.techednext.com containing information related to more than 500 books associated with bachelor of computer applications (BCA)/masters of computer applications.

The website, created by BCA third-year student Ankur Arman will be formally inaugurated by state human resource development minister, P.K. Shahi on May 24 at Vikash Bhavan.

In March, Ankur had penned a book called Programming@speed of light, which dealt with various aspects of computer programming from basic to an advanced level. A city-based publication house, Jagriti Sahitya, had published 1,000 copies of the book, priced at Rs 120 each.

Programming@speed of light also dealt with the various aspects of bluetooth device, a detailed description about various computer programmes such as C, C++, Java and others. The book had been written following the change in the syllabus by University Grants Commission at the graduate level.

Ankur told The Telegraph: “The idea behind developing the website is to help students who cannot afford computer books from the market.”

Arman has uploaded materials from 500 books and 400 PDF files on computer knowledge. The site also contains 200 powerpoint presentations related to Microsoft Word, Java, C+, C++ and others.

Arman said: “About 100 presentations have been uploaded so that students can learn the basics of computer easily.” The website also has a video lecture on computer knowledge. The video contains lectures by teachers and professors of Indian Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Arman said if anyone has a query, he/she can write into Arman’s email id and the query would be answered within 48 hours. Arman added: “Downloading from the website is free.”

Arman said: “The idea behind developing the portal came to me after I thought of writing a book on computers when I was in the first year.”

Vice-chancellor of Patna University, Sudipto Adhikari, said: “It is a big thing that a student of Patna College has brought laurels to the university. Arman’s hard work and dedication will surely act as a source of inspiration to others.”

Arman hails from a modest family background. He is the son of a retired schoolteacher in Motihari. Arman said his book reflected his two years of continuous hard work and research.

“I thought of writing the book after I faced difficulties in developing computer programmes at my graduation level. Generally, it has been seen that students feel scared while making computer programmes. It is nothing but a set of instructions written in a particular language to meet the end result. These difficulties inspired me to write a book on programming, which could be user-friendly. In the process of writing the book, I collected notes and these information and texts have been compiled in the website,” Arman said.
