Caution for speedsters — the anti-rash driving cell of police would be back with a vengeance to crack the whip on reckless motorists on city streets.

Patna city superintendent of police Jayant Kant told The Telegraph on Tuesday that the revival of the cell was in its final stage and the number of teams and the their strength would be finalised within a couple of days.

“There have been reports of increase in the number of rash bikers in Patna. Various police stations in the city have received several complaints about the menace. Keeping this in mind, the police have decided to revive the cell and tackle the problem,” the officer said.

“The composition of the team is also in its final leg and the final decision will be taken within two days . The cell will have more policemen than the last time and they will be given bikes. At present, other details are being worked out,” he added. Patna senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj confirmed the development. “There has been no decision about the strength of the teams and their modus operandi. It will be announced soon,” the senior officer told The Telegraph.

The cell was formed in December 2010 to curb the menace of rash driving. It consisted of eight probationary sub-inspectors, who used to conduct random checks at different places. However, the cell lost steam and was dissolved within six months of its inception.

“Earlier, there were a lot of complaints about speedsters in the Patna airport area. They also used perform stunts with their bikes. So, police personnel in civil clothes would be deputed to catch hold of them,” a police officer said.

“The new cell will have more men to tackle the menace, The number has not been decided as yet,” he added.
