Bettiah, Nov. 12: Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi presided over a review meeting participated by officials of different departments here today.

However, Manjhi was compelled to discuss issues raised by people, social activists and even party workers at the review meeting.

Besides the West Champaran district magistrate and police superintendents of Bettiah and Bagaha, some senior-level officials were also present.

Late on Tuesday evening, Manjhi also addressed a public meeting at Valmikinagar where he warned forest officials against behaving in an unfriendly manner with jungle-dwellers in this area.

Speaking about the worst-ever conditions of district hospitals, he asked the civil surgeon to prepare a list of doctors and other employees who are posted at one place for the past five years.

After the list is made available, all those doctors and employees would be transferred shortly, Manjhi said.

Manjhi also directed the Bagaha superintendent of police, Hari Prasad Yash, to impose complete ban over the sale of illicit liquor in the district.

The chief minister also assured the people of Valmikinagar regarding the ongoing construction of a new channel in the Gandak, which will facilitate regular flow of 1,400 cusecs of water in order to ensure regular function of three power-generating hydel units, each producing 5MW of electricity for this area. Before leaving for Bettiah, Manjhi also participated in a dinner hosted by the local people.
