Bhojpuri film fans have a reason to rejoice as two superstars of the industry — Ravi Kissen and Manoj Tiwari — have agreed to share space on the silver screen again.
The duo will come together in Ganga Jamuna Sarswati, directed by Alok Kumar, for the “betterment of the Bhoj-puri industry” after burying the hatchet on their alleged animosity. Sources said bitterness between the two goes back at least 10 years.
A source close to both Manoj and Ravi said: “By 2001, though Manoj had already made his mark with Bhojpuri songs, he was fascinated with acting too. Manoj had a small part in the 2001 film, Kanyadaan, starring Ravi in a lead role. He used to spent hours on the set to see Ravi act.
“In 2002, Manoj was offered the lead role in Sasura Bada Paisawala and it went on to become a big hit. While he used to charge Rs 1.5 lakh, after the success, he started to charge Rs 21 lakh per film. At the same time Ravi used to charge Rs 2.5 lakh for a film. Since then, the bitterness started between the two stars,” the source added.
Although between 2006 and 2010 the two had worked with each other off and on, the matter reached a head two years ago at a music release of their film. Both Manoj and Ravi starred with Bhagyshree in Ego Chumma Deda Rajaji. While Ravi reached the venue with Bhagyshree, Manoj rea-ched 20 minutes late. After an alleged altercation, the two ha-ve not worked together since.
Alok Kumar, who has brought the stars together for their fans again, said: “Whenever they work together, a film does well and collects good revenue. It was important for them to work together for the betterment of the Bhojpuri industry. Other directors, who are eager to make a film with both of them together, will also be happy.”
Ravi told The Telegraph: “Yes, we have decided to work together for the betterment of the Bhojpuri industry.” Manoj said: “There was some misunderstanding. But we have forgotten the past and have decided to work together.”
Ganga Jamuna Sarswati is expected to release in October.
