Patna: Superintendent of police (SP), traffic, PN Mishra Patna expressed his disappointment over the traffic system in Patna, claiming that many steps have been taken in the past two months but the results were not satisfactory and more steps would be taken in the coming days.

Mishra blamed the private school management for violating the traffic rules and creating obstacles in the way of smooth traffic.

He warned such schools to strictly follow the traffic rules or be ready to face legal action.

The traffic superintendent of police said schools have not yet given the number of buses they run in the city and do not follow the traffic rule of pick up and drop from their own school premises.

"There are some schools that completely violate the traffic rules. I will not name these schools. According to rules, they are supposed to drop the students on the school premises and pick them up after classes end. But most of the schools do this in the middle of the road which causes huge snarls. I have warned such schools and a few of them have given in writing they will not repeat it. I must say that if such things continue I will surely take action," Mishra said at his office.

The traffic superintendent of police pointed out that there are schools which have illegally encroached roads for parking their school buses.

Mishra urged the school management to allow their respective school buses inside their premises otherwise the schools will have to face action from the traffic police.

"If the students belong to their school, then even the buses belong to them and they have to allow them to park their buses on their premises or else be ready for action," Mishra said.

Recently, even Patna High Court had expressed disappointment over the encroachment and the deteriorating traffic management in which traffic crawls even on Bailey Road.

Mishra also slammed the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and blamed them for encroaching the roads in city. GAIL is currently busy in work of providing piped natural gas (PNG) to the households under Jagdishpur-Haldia-Bokaro-Dhamra pipeline under the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Yojana.

Under the project, hundred of pipes are unloaded in the city and kept on the road which takes up good space and vehicles face a lot of problem in parking their vehicles.

These pipes have taken up the parking area in Fraser Road, Bailey Road, Gandhi Maidan and other areas.

"I do not have any problem neither have the power to hamper the development project. But the GAIL officials should understand that their act is creating a lot of problem in parking the vehicles. The pipes have kept in such way that parking is difficult. I have written a letter to them not to cover the entire road," Mishra said.

He also said that from July 9, the traffic in Patna will be divided into 39 sectors and each sector in-charge have been given adequate force to regulate the traffic.

The strength of traffic jawans deputed in each sector varies between 8 and 24.
