Naveen Kumar Prasad, the Doordarshan employee whose colleague accused him and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak of mental harassment, has complained against the complainant at the capital’s SC/ST police station.

While Rajak faced flak from the Opposition on the opening day of the Assembly’s winter session, Prasad accused the woman of high-handedness and of insulting him as he belongs to a lower caste.

A police officer at the SC/ST police station confirmed receipt of the complaint. “The place where the alleged incident took place falls under Kotwali police station so we have forwarded the application there,” an officer said. But Kotwali police station house officer (SHO) Aman Kumar said Doordarshan falls under Gandhi Maidan police station. “The application was sent but we forwarded it to Gandhi Maidan police station,” the officer said. Gandhi Maidan police SHO Rajbindu Prasad said: “I have not received anything yet. Once we receive it, sections will be levelled on the basis of the complaint and investigation will be carried out.”

Prasad told The Telegraph: “The woman and I hold the same position at Doordarshan. But, since the programme head had been transferred to Ranchi, she was given additional charge as she is senior. I was okay with it but she began insulting and humiliating me in front of others as I belong to a lower caste. When things turned unbearable, I approached Shyam Rajak as I am close to him.”

Prasad confirmed Rajak called up the lady. “He requested her to help me. But she was adamant. All Rajak said was he would have to call up another official. There was no threat or intimidation. However, the humiliation only became more severe for me. On November 29, I filed a written complaint and sent it to my regional office, the office head of Doordarshan Patna and to the directorate. She got a copy of the complaint and then came up with the FIR,” Prasad said.

Sources said the police questioned a personal assistant of Rajak on Friday. Sumit Sinha, a lawyer of the woman, said they would move the high court to quash the FIR lodged by Prasad. “The FIR will not stand as it was filed after our FIR,” he said.

In the Assembly, Rajak again claimed the allegations were baseless. “I am shocked and surprised. I have known her for years and we have been good friends. I have no clue why she has accused me. I help so many people and might have called her up. But I cannot threaten,” he said.

The opposition thinks otherwise. “Nitish Kumar talks of women’s empowerment. But his cabinet has a minister who threatens women. He has no right to remain in power and neither is the state government taking any action against him,” former chief minister Rabri Devi said.
