The woes of residents of Sri Krishna Nagar went unheard not just by the civic authorities but also the rain gods.
The drain water accumulated on the roads and in the courtyards of houses located in one of the upscale neighbourhoods in the state capital refused to recede after the downpour on Monday night.
The Telegraph had reported on March 13 that the water supply pipeline at the junction of road number 20 and 21, on road number 2 in Sri Krishna Nagar, is damaged. Consequently, the leakage causes frequent waterlogging. Residents also claim that the drainage and the main sewage chamber of road number 2 is blocked for the past six months because of which drain water flows into their homes.
The civic body claimed on Tuesday that work has been initiated to resolve the problems in the area. “The water leakage problem has been found at five places in Sri Krishna Nagar and repair work has been completed at two places. The repair work at the remaining three places would be completed by tomorrow,” said Shashank Shekhar Sinha, the executive officer of New Patna circle of PMC.
However, the residents dismissed the claim of the civic body. “The water is flowing on the road with the same speed even today and I have not seen anyone doing any repair work. Waterlogging has become a perennial problem on this road. It is extremely difficult to walk on this street, especially for senior citizens like me,” said Shakal Prasad, a resident of road number 2.
Waterlogging apart, residents of Sri Krishna Nagar are also forced to brave garbage stench and stray animals on the roads. The street connecting roads number 22 and 23 is covered with litter, garbage and cattle dung. “I believe the report carried in The Telegraph today had no effect on the authorities, as no one turned up to clean the garbage piled up on the road in front of my house,” said Madhuri Sinha, a resident of road number 22.
Residents also alleged that the civic body has turned a blind eye to their complainants. “This waterlogging problem and blockage of sewer line is a persistent problem in this area. We have made numerous complaints to the PMC but no action has been taken till date,” said Vinod Singh, a resident of road number 2.
