Railway employees will try their skills on the turf at the 57th All India Inter Railway Golf Championship in Patna from Saturday.
The venue for the two-day tournament is Patna Gold Club. Around 110 players will take part in it.
Fourteen national players, including Mohammed Islam from Patna, will compete in a number of team and individual events. Islam’s all-India rank is 23.
Twenty-four teams, including Central Railway, Mumbai CST, Calcutta Eastern Railway, Hajipur Eastern Railway, Northern Railway and North Frontier Railway, are also taking part.
East Central Railway Sports Association (ECRSA) president A.K. Mallik said: “The championship is being held in Bihar for the first time. More than 45 trophies would be awarded. Of the different events, TG Russel Cup would be an individual event.”
East Central Railway general manager Madhuresh Kumar, who is also the captain of its golf team, will tee-off the championship.
ECRSA general secretary A.K. Chandra said: “Four railway general managers are also taking part in the championship. Besides the ECR general manager, they are R.S. Virdhi, GM, Northeast Frontier Railway; South Eastern Railway GM A.K. Verma and North Central Railway GM Alok Johari.”
Nineteen retired general managers are also taking part in the tourney.
The ECRSA president said the association would try to hold this championship again in Bihar only if it is a hit this year. Last year, this championship was organised in Hubli, Karnataka.
