Patna: The special investigation team (SIT) of the Gopalganj police carried out raids on different hideouts of the suspects in connection with the mysterious disappearance of over 42,000 answer scripts of the Class X Matriculation examination.

The raids were conducted on the basis of inputs gathered during interrogation of two employees of the SS Girls Senior Secondary School at Gopalganj. Night guard Ash Pujan Singh and peon Chhatu Singh were arrested after a case was lodged with the Town police station.

Gopalganj superintendent of police Rasheed Zaman said on Thursday that a sniffer dog was pressed into service to get leads in the case. However, nothing substantial came of it as the empty bags were dumped much before. "We didn't want to leave any room for chance," Zaman told The Telegraph over phone.

The SIT questioned principal Pramod Kumar Srivastava for the fourth consecutive day. "He is cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation. In addition, he is the complainant," Zaman said.

During interrogation, Srivastava revealed that a conspiracy was hatched by some employees of the school to implicate him in a false case. He claimed that the moment he heard about the missing answer scripts from the Bihar School Examination Board officials, he rushed to the school from his hometown Padrauna in Uttar Pradesh and lodged an FIR.

"The officials wanted the answer scripts of science, social science, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and mathematics of two students. We could only find a few answer copies. We found several bags of answer copies missing from the strong-room where these had been kept on April 5 after evaluation. Apart from me, only caretaker Chattu Singh has the key of the strong-room," Srivastava said in the FIR.
