The police on Sunday searched the official residence of incarcerated JDU MLA Anant Kumar Singh in Patna to gather evidence but nothing substantial was found during the search.
The search assumes significance in the wake of the Enforcement Directorate's move to confiscate the alleged ill-gotten property of the don-turned-politician under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The Enforcement Directorate has also sought details of Anant's criminal antecedents.
Deputy inspector-general (central range) Shalin said investigations were proceeding in the right direction. "Instructions have been given to the investigating officers to gather more and more evidence so that the guilty could be prosecuted in the court of law," he told The Telegraph.
The legislator was arrested after a search operation by the police at his official residence on June 24 this year in connection with a case related to the abduction of a realtor, Raju Singh, from Bihta in Patna rural in November last year.
The police have gradually intensified raids to arrest Pratap, the prime accused in the abduction and subsequent murder of Futus Yadav.
The superintendent of police (Patna rural), Hari Kishore Singh, said the personnel of the special task force were carried out raids at Achhuara, Bedhna and Haroli villages on Sunday.
The police on Saturday submitted a production warrant against Anant to the authorities of the Beur Central Jail, informing the latter about a fresh case being lodged against the legislator with the Secretariat police station in Patna under the Arms Act.
Sources in the jail administration confirmed the receipt of the production warrant.
BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday attacked chief minister over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the failure of the government to lure prospective investors.
Launching an attack on Nitish, Modi said: "The government has been organising Udyami Panchayat but has failed to lure investors."
The BJP leader said in the past two years, not a single investor had turned up in the state with investments following the break-up of the NDA alliance in Bihar.
The leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, on Sunday accused chief minister Nitish Kumar over the alleged lawlessness in the state.
Nand Kishore said the residents of the state were not living in peace because of the uncontrolled administration scenario.
He added that the crime graph had surged in the state and women were not safe.
