Patna, April 7: Daredevil Tejashwi Yadav still eyes Delhi.
This time, not as a right-hand batsman for an IPL re-entry but as a firebrand leader on a mission to realise the dreams of his father Lalu Prasad. And, he has picked up the right role models in Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav. “I will be looking at them as an inspiration when I try to connect to the youths in the state,” he asserted, vowing that he would pursue full-time politics from now on.
Tejashwi did not drop any hint who asked him to take up the microphone, instead of the willow, but the successes of Akhilesh — becoming the youngest chief minister of Uttar Pradesh at 39 — and Rahul — catapulted as Congress vice-president this year — seem to have run deep into his heart.
For the RJD, which has got only four seats in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, Tejashwi’s speech is itself quite encouraging as the party might go into another alliance with the Congress in next year’s general elections.
Speaking at a seminar organised by the youth wing of the RJD today, he said: “We usually witness that youngsters go to different fields. But they do not try to make an entry to politics. Unless the youths join politics, progress will not be witnessed. They should also raise voice for their rights. The future of Bihar is its youths.”
During the 2010 Assembly elections, Tejashwi, with LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Chirag, assisted their fathers during campaigns. Tejashwi, who also accompanied his mother Rabri Devi on a few campaigns, managed to draw crowds but failed to turn the voters into the party fold.
Tejashwi, addressing a seminar, “Present education system in Bihar: Future of youth”, at the planetarium, said: “A youth commission should be formed in the state where problems of the youths can be heard and solutions be found also. Whenever needed, I’ll be there for the youths and politics would not be a bar. I’ll strive hard for them.”
Tejashwi declared that he would start the “Jan Samarthan Yatra” from Samastipur on April 20. He added that the time had come to “talk less and do more at the grassroots level”.
The seminar was also attended by RJD spokesperson Manoj Kumar Jha, Youth RJD president Alok Kumar Mehta, former DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha among others.
